YJ Hwang is a Costume Designer who has won both an Emmy Award and a Costume Design Guild Award for her outstanding work in the industry. A second-generation Korean-American raised in Southern California, YJ began painting at a young age but was drawn to fashion and clothing’s unique ability to drive a narrative on screen. By her early twenties, she was styling for commercial and fashion editorial clients before she transitioned into the scripted world. Since joining Local 705 and Local 892, YJ has been a pivotal member of the costuming team for over twenty major television series and films.

YJ’s notable achievements include being part of the award-winning costuming teams for American Horror Story (Emmy and Costume Design award winner) and Westworld (Costume Design Award Winner), as well as HBO’s Euphoria (Emmy nominated). She served as the Costume Designer for CW's All American starting from season five to season six, showcasing her talent across a range of acclaimed projects. A team player, fluent in both large-scale production and smaller sets, YJ is a driven Costume Designer committed to the collaborative art of storytelling and world building. Versed in period, horror and sci-fi, YJ is most inspired by contemporary stories and showcasing new and diverse voices in fashion.
